Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam Blog-Wandering Hello

Amsterdam, Netherlands

I moved to the Netherlands over five years ago, but I didn’t actually make it to Amsterdam until I had already lived here almost a year.

It was one of those, “oh, crap” moments. I had been to Germany, England, Ireland, France, Belgium, but not to the capital of the country I was living in.

We tend to do that, don’t we.

We tend to not visit the next town over because, well, I can do that anytime.

When I got to Amsterdam for the first time, I was sad that I didn’t come sooner.

The hundreds of canals and leaning row houses make for a quaint city center. The millions of bikes and boats just adds to that charm.

However, my favorite thing by far is all the history.

I could spend hours at the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum just staring at the paintings.

We went to the Van Gogh Museum a couple weeks ago. (Thats when I took these photos.) I love living so close to Amsterdam and I love the convenience of my Museumkaart. With this card I can go to museums as long as I want and as often as I want for a year. So my dream of just staring at paintings for hours is a reality.

After we were finished staring at paintings (because they closed), we wandered along the canals until the sun set.

It was just beautiful.

Amsterdam has a lot to offer and there is a lot to love about this canal riddled city.

Amsterdam is a small, but wonderful city. I studied there myself for 2 years at Amsterdam University College. Probably the 2 most exciting years of my life. Thank you for the beautiful pictures and the post..

Amsterdam is somewhere I have never been but would love to go. I think it is a real eclectic mix of different things. Definitely a bucket list travel destination.

I went to Amsterdam many years ago with my parents. But your pictures make me want to go again and revisit it with “adult eyes”.

I’ve wanted to visit Amsterdam for a long time, especially given it’s not far from England! Your photos are so enticing and make me want to visit even more!

Thank you! It is really close to England and the train is going to start going from London to Amsterdam straight! No more stop over in Belgium. Even more reason to come! 🙂

I know exactly what you mean. I moved to Granada, Spain over a years and a half ago. For the longest time, I didn’t visit the main attraction which is the Alhambra. I recently did go, though. It’s always something you say you will do but keep putting off.

So funny how we always think we have more time for the main attraction but nothing else!
